Oceanside, CA (Oct. 29, 2006) Authorities are investigating

the death of the friend of a friend who was killed after he ran

from the cover of nearby trees into the path of a southbound

Amtrak train traveling at 40 miles per hour.

death turns
 slow gaze
quick wit
mystic glaze

he stepped in front

 a fast Amtrak
on track to go
places beyond pain
man on a mission
to the last stop
who's first
teared and torn away

eggshell thin and torn apart

over but not easy
leaving not even a small band
on hand to rail
to mourn
The Conductor
against the coldness of it all
screams of why me?
wrong question
why?
still no answer
 the sheer magnitude
no turn around
 so selfish to the end
look down
 this latest incident
kiss quick
time to retire
no time
to try
really
to heal
